HERE & NOW - Reloaded
A workshop to stop thinking about "not thinking" and take action
For people with a little previous clowning experience.
By Lila Monti.
The clown world elapses on the present. It’s a constant passage through here and now. Wherever she/he is, whatever she/he is doing, the clown must be receptive, open and available to what’s going on at the very moment and space where he or she is. The complicity with each unique audience and with her/his own feelings, impulses, and thoughts needs to be strong.
Sometimes, letting ourselves be guided only by our ideas and our brain can be a bit paralysing. Often, we may feel that “we can't think of anything good/funny to do.” Being able to sharpen our perception of what is “already happening” can help. It's not about going on stage and having a “blank mind, without any thoughts or ideas.” That is often impossible. But it is about being open to receiving other stimuli that do not come only from the sphere of thinking. A movement or a sound from the audience, the way our shoes organize our feet, something a stage partner did, a genuine emotion that moves us, the point in space where we are located in relation to the audience... All of these things, which happen without us causing them, can be a starting point for our clown actions and reactions.

The workshop proposal is to develop listening to the present moment, training the ability to transform different stimuli received by the clown into actions and interactions, creating games and making them grow, and strengthening the complicity with himself or herself, with the partner and with the audience.
